You control Turok, son of stone, and you have to save your tribe by killing dinosaurs and stopping Campaigner's forces from ruling the lands. In core, it plays like a first-person shooter, and there is a lot of variety, both enemies you kill, and weapons you can wield. Jumping IS required here, it can make the difference between life or death, take my word for it.
Being good here is not enough, you have to conserve your ammo and pick health pickups only when you really need them. The stages are full of traps, some of which are instant death-inducing. There are a few bosses in between stages, and they are hard, no matter what difficulty you're playing in. Perhaps the most exclusive feature of Turok Dinosaur Hunter is the free roaming. You don't have to take a linear path, you can go pretty much wherever you want to. You're not forced to push every button or kill every enemy. You can find keys hidden in stages that allows you to go to other stages. There are also the Chronocepter pieces, by getting all of them you get the allmighty Chronocepter, a weapon so powerful, it kills almost everything in one hit. Protip : Don't aim at own face.
Turok is overall a fun to play FPS, intended for pros, but has a nice learning curve for newbies as well. Some places are frustrating to get by, but it was exciting from beggining to end.
FINAL RATING : 8.2
